Important - Please Read!
When choosing your trip, to ensure your enjoyment, please do not over estimate your experience / fitness levels. If you a bit nervous of canoeing, have young children or are not particularly fit, choose an evening paddle or a Kayaking Taster Trip. The 3 Hour and Half Day Kayaking River Trips suit anyone water confident, with good fitness levels and for all day trips you must have previous kayaking experience. If you are not sure just contact us!

Evening Paddles

£20.00 per Adult
£10.00 per Child

Canoe Trips - Evening Paddles : Encounter Cornwall : Canoeing, Cycling, Walking Holidays in Cornwall, The Saints Way and the South West Coast Path

In the early evening the River Fowey really comes to life. With the tide in, shoals of mullet race up from the sea and peace and stillness surrounds you as the calm of the end of the day envelops the river.

This really is a great time to see the river in a unique way and we run regular evening canoe trips lasting around 2 hours paddling the Lerryn Creek and returning you to the village. Both trips end with the chance for well earned refreshments relaxing at one of the riverside pubs. Suitable for everyone, the evening paddle is a magical and relaxing way to end the day.

Kayaking Taster Trip

£20.00 per Adult

£10.00 per Child

For those who have never canoed before or those who just want to take things nice and easy, our taster sessions will introduce you to the fun of canoeing before taking you on a short trip down the Lerryn Creek and on a circular trip into the mid section of the River Fowey itself.

Your guide will get you quickly into the basic skills of paddling before a gentle trip through the stunning scenery of the estuary. With around 2 hours of paddling the taster sessions are perfect for those wanting the chance to try some paddling in a fantastic location without having to commit to a full day on the river.

3 Hour River Trips

£25.00 per Adult
£12.50 per Child

Canoeing from Lerryn Creek we take you through Wind in the Willows creek and out into the mighty Fowey Estuary before heading towards the harbour village of Golant and then turning upriver into wilder sections of water near St Winnow.

These are good trips for spotting wildlife in some of the hidden creeks en route. On the 3 hr trips we usually stop for a quick break somewhere special to give your arms a brief rest before heading back to Lerryn on a circular loop through the estuary. 3 hr paddles are perfect introductions to River Fowey kayaking for those with water confidence and reasonable fitness levels.

Half Day Kayaking Trips

£30.00 per Adult
£15.00 per Child

Our half day kayaking expeditions cover a huge variety of stunning scenery on this mighty river. Routes depend on the tide and wind direction on any particular day either heading downriver on a five mile journey to Fowey, upriver on a return trip to the inland town of Lostwithiel or paddling a circular route through the highlights of the middle estuary "bowl" including Golant, Penpoll Creek and idyllic St Winnow. All trips include navigating the "Wind in the Willows" creek to Lerryn, the highlight of the estuary kayaking and depending on the destination you will also encounter hidden inland harbours, shipwreck creeks, protected salt marshes teeming with wildlife and not a dull section anywhere on your trip - guaranteed!

We will stop for a break usually kayaking right into the hidden harbour village of Golant on trips to Fowey or at St Winnow on canoe trips to Lostwithiel. Either way your guides will take you through all the interesting locations and wildlife en route as you will be canoeing over 5 miles of river and creek and should allow 4 hours for the trip.

Please Note: At times on 1/2 day trips, to access the more remote locations, you will need to be paddling against the tidal flow. This is quite safe but does require those on these trips to have previous kayaking experience AND a good level of fitness. If you are not sure if you fit into these requirements either contact the office to discuss this further or book a three hour trip which still take you into the main sections of the estuary without the same need for experience or fitness.

Full Day Kayaking Trips

£40.00 per Adult
£20.00 per Child

From the coast all the way inland, the full day trips cover everything. Allow six hours which will include kayaking through the stunning natural harbour area at Fowey, crossing to Polruan, exploring hidden Pont Pill and finally canoeing down to where the river meets the sea itself. On calm days we will have a lunch break on a deserted beach just out to sea below huge cliffs only accessible by water, if the sea is a bit choppy we break instead at the old harbour in Polruan.

With the tide turning we head inland in the afternoon swept up the length of the river with all its scenic variety. Kayaking into the pretty inland village of Golant for a break, we then cross the estuary once more before entering the wild upper reaches of the Lerryn Creek with plenty of time to paddle some of the remote inlets en route. Depending on tides, trips may begin or end even further upriver at Lostwithiel.

You must have some experience of kayaking to join a full day trip but more importantly have good fitness levels. Your reward will be a memorable and very special paddle of between 8 and 10 miles assisted by the incoming tide.

Private Group Trips, Birthdays, Stag and Hen Parties and Corporate Trips

Prices depend on the trip but are in the same range as our standard trips.

We have lots of experience of providing fun and active trips for private groups with very different priorities, from the local Womens Institute through to Stag nights and fitness clubs.

We will work with you and the tides to plan in a day to suit your needs, be it with a lunch stop at a waterside pub, trip to the interior to hunt out the wildlife, full day expeditions with a break for a swim on a coastal mouth beach or just a gentle paddle for an hour or two on the calm and unspoilt waters of the upper creeks. On a private trip we will run things to suit your groups pace and your groups wishes which won’t be compromised by having other customers along with you. So if you want a bit longer for that pub lunch or you decide half way you want to slow down and turn off to explore a particular creek you have spotted – then no problem.

Send in a booking request and let us know how much paddling you would like to do and what stops you would like to make and we will work out the options for you to consider.

Information for all Canoe Trips

Non Swimmers Canoeing is safe, easy and fun and you are very unlikely to fall in – non swimmers are welcome and as you have a buoyancy aid you will be quite safe but we do need to know in advance as we limit the number of non swimmers on any specific trip.

Children Children are very welcome on our trips but under 18's need to be accompanied by their parent(s) or guardian. Younger children from the age of 3 are also very welcome on trips using our double canoes along with their parents/guardians and we have buoyancy aids to suit. Really the test on younger children is will they be able to stay sat in the front of the kayak and watch the river roll past – if they are at an age that they can do that then they can come along !

Trip Information Once you book with us we will confirm trip start times and email or post you our information sheet covering what to bring and where to meet. The actual start and finish points of trips may be altered due to tide and wind factors but as ever with Encounter Cornwall, we will ensure you are transported back to your car / accommodation at the end of your trip.

Weather We paddle in most weather conditions with the exception of heavy persistant rain or strong winds. If we have to cancel a trip due to either of the above we normally do this 24 hours in advance and give you a call to save a wasted journey. We try to move the trip to another date to suit but if this is not possible for you or us we refund any monies paid in full.

If you have any questions about our canoe trips or canoeing the river in general please don't hesitate to contact us using the link below.
