The Red and Blue Houses

Nestled in a wonderfully remote corner of Cornwall, near to the South Coast Path and Fowey, and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are two newly converted farm buildings with bright and minimalist interiors.

The Blue House, (sleeping 6 plus cot) is painted in two shades of blue and white, has a sunny Greek feel and is spaciously open plan with high ceilings, exposed beams, good sofas and a wood-burning stove. The Red House, (sleeping 6 plus cot) has the same fresh contemporary design and a warm Moroccan feel.

Each cottage has underfloor heating, a wet room shower – clean, no frills – and an enclosed grassy garden and meadow big enough for football and a swing.

The yurt

In a corner of a Cornish orchard is a domed Mongolian yurt, sleeping five plus cot. Hop up the few steps to its entrance, push back the wooden door and enter to a blissful cosiness: a wooden floor strewn with warm, colourful rugs, low futon-type mattresses with cotton bedding, a simple table and chairs and a small gas cooker, all contained in a gorgeous criss-crossed wooden frame made from locally grown steam-bent ash.

This is sparsely populated South East Cornwall. Botelet, between Herodsfoot and Couch’s Mill, forms a patchwork of ancient fields and a wet woodland, capped by the Neolithic Hill Fort of Bury Down. The farm, its buildings and tradition have slowly evolved and many historic farm practices have been kept alive for generations. Surrounding wild flower meadows are grazed by cattle and sheep.

Croft Farm Cottages are three beautifully secluded Cottages converted from the original Farm House and Barn on a once working farm. The cottages, named Annet, Bryher and Tean after three of the smaller Isles of Scilly, have been sympathetically converted, with the character of the farmhouse retained and enhanced to make two comfortable and well equipped units.

The cottages are accessed through but are completely private from a small Touring Caravan Park The Park does not have a Club, Bar or Restaurant but caters for visitors requiring a peaceful and friendly base from which to explore the County. Meander through the Woodland Trail and discover the delights of nature. There is also a large Children's play meadow with play equipment and a small Park Shop. Mature trees and shrubs ensure absolute privacy for the cottages.

Bryher sleeps 5 and has a big kitchen, with dishwasher, full size lpg gas cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. In the lounge there is a large inglenook fireplace, which has a woodburning stove, augmenting the full central heating. The Lounge also has a beamed ceiling. There is a utility room and access to a large front garden with a grassed area and paved patio area - perfect for Barbecues!

Tean was originally part of the Barn, has two bedrooms, and sleeps 4 comfortably. The Lounge has an open fire in addition to a full central heating system and has a beamed ceiling which gives a cosy feeling. It has a barbecue and patio furniture, and a small private grassed area.

Annet sleeps 5, with full gas central heating, with an electric flame effect fire in the lounge. The lounge has comfortable settees and a 42 inch plasma tv with digital, a radio/cd player and dining table and chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with full size lpg gas cooker, washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge/freezer. There is a sun lounge with cane furniture, looking out onto a patio with patio furniture, there is also a large lawned garden.

Close to Rock, Polzeath and Daymer on the North Cornwall coast, the Hayloft is a Cornish holiday cottage, converted in 1999 from an ancient Cornish barn, and available for self-catering holiday rental.

The original exposed ceiling timbers have been retained and the Hayloft has stripped pine floors throughout.

The Hayloft is extremely spacious and accommodates 4 comfortably. Converted to a high specification, it has a well equipped kitchen with built-in hob and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Quintole is very pretty stone built cottage set in a large country garden. The cottage is comfortably furnished. There are 3 bedrooms and it sleeps 6: one double bed, and two twins. Bathroom with bath, shower and WC and separate WC. Kitchen with electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine (tumble-dryer available) and is fully equipped, large dining room with Rayburn for cosiness; spacious and picturesque sitting room has a wood block floor, rug, three sofas, TV, VCR, DVD and CD players, piano and open fire in the stone fireplace. Both sitting and dining rooms have French windows to the garden. The cottage has full oil-fired central heating and storage heaters and there is a separate play/quiet area (with wc) in the Studio which is away from the house and in the garden

Our large garden has parking for up to three cars. Close to the house is a roofed well with a Delabole stone paved sun area; beyond is the garden with shrubs, trees and grassed areas as well as some flowering plants. There is a shallow, rain-fed pond accessed by a gated 80 metre hard drive from the road. Very peaceful.

Sunbeam Cottage is situated in the Old Town, an original fishermans cottage, 200 metres directly behind the harbour. It has been renovated to a high standard, obtaining a grading of four stars from the English Tourist Board.

The ground floor has original slate flagstones and pine ceilings throughout. The lounge is spacious with two large sofas, Chinese rug and gas flame effect fire. There is a digital remote controlled colour television, video recorder and CD player. The kitchen/dining area is a good size and very well equipped with a 'smeg' cooker, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble drier and fridge freezer.

The two bedrooms on the first floor are both en-suite, the twin room with a shower, toilet and washbasin and the double room with a bath, toilet and washbasin. Good quality bed linen and towels are provided. The cottage is cool in the summer and really cosy in the winter with full gas central heating and a continual supply of hot water. Gas and electricity usage is included in the tariff.

The cottages convenient position within the Old Town is ideal for the close proximity to the pubs, restaurants and shops but also far enough from the hustle and bustle of the harbour in the summer months to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The cottage is available to rent on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. Short breaks are available in the winter months. I welcome dogs, however please do not allow them in the bedrooms or on the furniture.

Walkers and Cyclists are very welcome here and well catered for in Padstow. With both the Saints Way and the South West Coast Path running through the town this is excellent walking country with plenty of stunning walks to fill up a weeks break. Or for those who prefer two wheels the famous Camel Trail offers up to 18 miles of off road and traffic free trails with bike hire easily available from several locations in the town.

Having just been rebuilt this has to be one of the best options in the village - Note that the cottage has just changed hands in June 2010 so please contact the new owner as listed to check on what facilities are being provided inside the cottage as the information below relates to the previous owners provisions. Once updated details are received here we will update them of course !

At last the building work is finished and Tansy (sleeping four) is ready for its first visitors this summer. Throughout the fourteen months of renovation work on this 18th century riverside cottage, we have been determined to keep the charm and character of the old building, whilst ensuring that it has every comfort for 21st century living.

The cottage is fully insulated to the latest standards and has under-floor heating, making it a cosy place to stay in summer or winter. The plumbing and wiring is all new and an en-suite shower room leads from the main bedroom. The existing downstairs bathroom has been completely re-fitted and behind it a utility room has been created, housing a washing machine and tumble drier.

The biggest change has taken place in the front of the house. This had to be completely rebuilt and the removal of a wall has enabled us to create a spacious living/dining room containing a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, Belfast sink, granite worktops, plenty of cupboard space and stunning views of the river. The dining table is under the other window, enabling river and bird watching and eating all at the same time! The room also contains a large, comfortable sofa – creating a very sociable space for relaxing, chatting or watching television.

The sitting room in Tansy is a perfect retreat. Situated in the oldest part of the cottage, its character is enhanced by the low-beamed ceiling and window seat. It has comfortable seating, another television, Nintendo Wii, a DVD player and plenty of DVDs, books, games and magazines. With the lamps lit and the velvet curtains drawn, winter evenings can be very cosy.

Upstairs, the main bedroom has a 5ft king-size bed and the second bedroom has two singles. Again, comfort has been a priority. Bedding from The White Company is Egyptian cotton and the pillows and duvets are non-allergenic. It is possible to lie in the double bed and see the river and the woods, watch the light on the water and observe the ducks, swans, egrets and the occasional cormorant - all without having to get up!

Outside, in the slate paved garden, you sit just a few metres from those same riverside views; watching the boats as the tide ebbs and flows.

Only a minute from the cottage is the well-stocked village shop and just up the road is the Ship Inn with its restaurant, its sunny garden and its log fire in winter. From the slipway just along from Tansy, Encounter Cornwall offers canoe hire and trips on the river suitable for everyone.

There is free parking, both in the village car park and directly outside Tansy (although it is well to be aware of the occasional very high tide, which comes across the road to the foot of the garden wall!) Lerryn is well positioned for those wanting to visit the South or the North coast of Cornwall, Bodmin Moor, the Eden Project and the many renowned Cornish gardens. Equally, you could forget all about driving and just enjoy being here…
