Botelet Farm (Lerryn Area)

Botelet Farm

'A few miles west of Liskeard in Cornwall, enjoys the sort of lush rural setting I thought only existed in Enid Blyton books. In fact this is Daphne du Maurier country, and Botelet Farm, hidden at the end of a narrow lane amid 250 acres of rolling farmland, has been the Tamblyn family home since 1861' Conde Nast Traveller

This is sparsely populated South East Cornwall. Botelet, between Herodsfoot and Couch’s Mill, forms a patchwork of ancient fields and a wet woodland, capped by the Neolithic Hill Fort of Bury Down. The farm, its buildings and tradition have slowly evolved and many historic farm practices have been kept alive for generations. Surrounding wild flower meadows are grazed by cattle and sheep.

People have stayed at Botelet since the original bed and breakfast in the 30’s, even slept in an old railway banana van in the 50’s. Today you can choose from a small selection of accommodation. Fend for yourselves behind 3’ stone walls in a farm cottage, sleep with nature in a Mongolian Yurt, camp in a wild flower meadow or take informal farmhouse bed and breakfast. Enjoy a non fussy healthy lifestyle amongst history art & natural beauty. Hanging lichen on the trees show the purity of the air. Mineral water is pumped from deep below the orchard.

We offer two comfortable bedrooms available from Easter - mid September Breakfast is not cooked but a combination of locally sourced and organic produce with a variation of home-made breads, jams, granola and espresso coffee, fruit, yogurt, toasted seeds, squeezed orange, apple and in season home grown blueberries.

Room 1 has an ancient carved four poster 4'6" bed and Room 2 has two iron bedsteads one of which is a 4' bed and a 3' bed so can be used as a small double, twin or for three people. These two rooms share a bathroom and breakfast is served in the farmhouse kitchen.

Botelet can also provide further relaxation with a session from our therapist Rachel Fisher APNT MAR. Treatments are taken in guests' cottage, room or yurt and include aromatherapy, reflexology and therapeutic massage.

Please see our website for more information and images about Botelet including our self catering, camping and Yurt Holidays. For those wanting to explore the area by bike Encounter Cornwall can provide cycle hire delivered to the farm.

Redgate Smithy Bed And Breakfast (Bodmin Moor Area)

Redgate Smithy Bed And Breakfast

Redgate Smithy is a 200 year old converted Smithy, and is now a friendly and welcoming B&B, situated just above the beautiful Golitha Falls on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor. Golitha Falls are set in the deep wooded valley of the River Fowey, as it tumbles over steep rapids down from the moor. They are tranquil, yet mysterious; peaceful, yet beautiful and foreboding, all at once. A King of Cornwall died here. Miners have toiled here. Legend lingers.

For breakfast, we provide an extensive and tasty menu that is cooked to order on the range, using local produce, and which is served in the light and airy conservatory overlooking the garden. Watch the birds over breakfast!

We have a lovely woodland garden for guests’ use, with a patio and other seating areas - sit back and listen to the buzzards mewing as they soar overhead! We have a large conservatory which guests are also free to use at any time, and comfortable beamed, well equipped cottage style bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own Freeview Digital TV, and tea & coffee making facilities.

Our local village is St.Cleer, near Liskeard, and we are very close to Siblyback Lake, and to the World Heritage Site for Cornish Mining at Minions. Birds and wildlife abound on and around the moor, and there are excellent walking, riding, hacking, and fishing facilities locally.

Bodmin Moor is the hidden heart of Cornwall, and it has a rich, rugged and beautiful landscape and heritage. Among the rugged tors that can be found near Minions, there is the famous Cheesewring, above the old granite quarry, and the varied rock formations of Sharp Tor and Kilmar Tor. There are also several ancient Neolithic settlements to be found here, as well as the many mining remains, including the hill-top strong-hold of Stowe’ Pound; several stone circles including the well-known Hurlers; and many other ancient sites and burial chambers such as Trethevy Quoit. The area abounds with nineteenth century industrial archaeology; including extensive mining remains up on the moor, the Wheal Victoria Copper Mine down by Golitha Falls, and the remains of the fascinating Liskeard and Caradon Railway, which linked the heights of Bodmin Moor, at over 1150 feet (for the old granite quarries and copper mines), with Looe on the coast. The very pretty Looe Valley Line still runs from Liskeard to Looe.

There are excellent pubs and restaurants in the local and surrounding areas that we can recommend to you for your evening meals. Bed and Breakfast costs £35 per person per night, or for single occupancy, cost is £45 per night. There are three rooms available; a Double (ensuite), the "Garden" Double (with its own private bathroom), and a Twin (ensuite).

We are easily accessible from both the A30 on Bodmin Moor, and the A38 from Liskeard. We have been awarded AA Four Stars for Guest Accommodation, and have also been awarded the SGA Secta Green Acorn Sustainable Tourism Award (see our website).

Children over 12 welcome. Friendly dog welcome. Off-road parking. Walkers and cyclists most welcome, with secure facilities for cycles and drying space for any wet gear.
