Golant Youth Hostel (Golant Area)
Stay here and you will need to quickly update your image of Youth Hostelling from days gone by. Golant is one of the YHA's top hostels. The impressive Georgian house is a stunning Grade II listed building with a modernised (and comfortable) interior. Set in three acres of grounds with a further 14 acres of woodland to explore, it is perched up on the steep valley side about 1 mile from Golant, giving it stunning views over the Fowey Estuary. A friendly, clean, comfy hostel, where staff go out of their way to help.
The dining room has a table license which includes a host of local ales and wines to accompany an excellent and inventive menu that continually changes. Manager Paul has developed a range of dishes inspired by Cornwall and created with fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Eat here and you will not be the only diners as the local Badger family come onto the lawn to feed in the evening right under the dining room windows.
Other facilities include a T.V. lounge with roaring open fire in the winter months, internet access, games room, self-catering kitchen, laundry room, cycle store, drying room and shop. Constant tea & coffee is available as needed throughout the day
Rooms have between 2-6 beds and there are 2 larger dormitories for groups. Breakfast, picnic lunch and evening meal can be provided.
For those who really want something unique the hostel provides a rent a tipi service where heated tipi’s, tucked into the corner of the grounds can be booked for up to six guests who want to stay out with the wildlife and sleep under the stars (keep an eye out for the badgers !)
Managers Paul and Amy have loads of inventive plans and ideas for this unique place so keep checking back here or ring them direct for developments. Meanwhile, the Golant Youth Hostel provides fantastic value for money and the chance to stay in one of the most stunning locations in the Fowey River Valley.
It is also ideally located for our daily guided Canoe Trips and Kayak Hire such as summer evening paddle on the river below.
